It’s hard to believe (and your kids may simply refuse to believe it), but with July nearing its end, the demise of summer break will soon be arriving. If you’re searching for ways to pack in a little more fun on long summer nights before it’s time to head back to school, Elgin’s Summer Movies in the Park are the perfect way to do it. Learn more about the details of this weekly event and find out what’s playing through the rest of July and August, below!

Where and When Does Summer Movies in the Park Take Place?

Summer Movies in the Park is held at Elgin’s Festival Park, located at 132 S Grove Avenue. Movies play on Thursdays and Saturdays in July, and Tuesdays and Thursdays in August. While the actual movies start playing at sunset, there are pre-show activities that start at 7 pm. Kids love participating in the pre-show activities, as they’re based on the movie scheduled for that night. They can also take a free train ride on the Elgin Express, so it’s worth the effort to show up a little early – just don’t forget to bring along some bug spray!

Are There Admission Fees for Summer Movies in the Park?

No, admission to the movie and pre-movie activities are always free for both children and adults. There will be popcorn and other concessions available for purchase from local non-profits, and you’re welcome to bring along some snacks from home, too.

What Is the Movie Lineup for July and August?

All of the movies selected to play at Movies in the Park are kid-friendly. Here’s what the lineup looks like for the rest of July and August of 2019:

  • Thursday, July 25 – Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle
  • Saturday, July 27 – Secret Life of Pets
  • Thursday, August 1 – Jurassic World
  • Tuesday, August 6 – Angels in the Outfield
  • Thursday, August 8 – Beauty & the Beast
  • Tuesday, August 13 – Spider-Man – Into the Spider-Verse

As you can see, there’s a good amount of variety in the lineup to suit the many different interests of kids, and there are even a few options some adults will remember watching when they were young, though some are modern remakes.
