5 Ways to Improve Gas Mileage in Bartlett!

Whether you’re commuting down the roads of Bartlett or hitting the highways outside of town for a family vacation, these are a few tips for how to improve gas mileage with some fuel-efficient driving habits anytime, anywhere:

  1. Gently Accelerate: When you are accelerating, press the gas pedal slowly and efficiently. Keep in mind that the harder you press on the gas, the more fuel you’re using. Be sure to accelerate smoothly and take five seconds to get from 0 mph to 10 mph.
  2. Plan Ahead to Avoid Traffic: If you can, try to avoid extended periods in stop-and-go traffic. This places additional mechanical stress on your vehicle’s drivetrain. Try to leave at least 15 minutes early to avoid rush hour, and if you can, take some shortcuts to get back home a bit quicker.
  3. Avoid High Speeds: The faster you drive, the more fuel you consume. If you are interested in achieving the best possible fuel economy on the highways, it’s best to maintain speeds between 55 and 65 mph as much as possible.
  4. Coast to a Stop: When stopping, in lieu of applying your brakes constantly, take your foot off the gas pedal and let your car coast to a stop. Don’t do this if there are a lot of people in front of you or you are in traffic.
  5. Use AC at Highway Speeds: While your air conditioning does require gas, it’s better to use it sparingly when you’re traveling around town. On the other hand, if you are driving on highways, it’s a good idea to use your air conditioning on highways, this is more efficient than having your windows down because opening the windows increases the drag coefficient, and causes excessive gas use.
