Cutting-Edge Hybrid Technology
As its name suggests, the 2016 Chevy Volt boasts twin electric motors, which work together to provide long-lasting power. All in all, the electric drive system cranks out 149 hp and 294 lb-ft of torque. The second-generation, lithium-ion battery powers the Volt for up to 53 miles on battery charge alone. Once the battery’s charge is depleted, the Volt switches over to its 1.5L gas engine. To recharge the battery, drivers can connect to a 120 volt outlet, or an optional 240 volt charging station. With a fully charged battery and topped-up gas tank, you can travel for a total of 420 miles in the Chevy Volt. The FWD equipped Volt comes with four drive modes: Normal, Sport, Mountain, and Hold. Normal mode is ideal for routine trips to and from the grocery store, work, etc. Sport mode, on the other hand, boosts the response of the accelerator pedal for a more athletic ride. Mountain mode helps to conserve battery power while accelerating on sharp uphill roads. Hold mode operates in extended-range and stores battery power for later, specifically for use on city streets.
