Looking at the History of the Chevrolet Traverse

Chevy Traverse

In 2008 at the Chicago Auto Show, consumers for the first time were able to feast their eyes on the Chevy Traverse. This full-size seven or eight seat crossover-SUV appeared at dealerships across the country starting in October of 2008.  With a 3.6L V6 engine that produces over 280 hp, owners surely get a sense of power. We have this fantastic vehicle now at Biggers Chevy in Elgin, just a short drive away for South Elgin and Schaumburg drivers. Come see us today!

Original Design Concept

The first idea for the Traverse came about in 2003 at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, the name only ever intended to be for the concept car. However, when production on the Traverse began in 2008, the name stuck. It was built on the same GM Lambda platform that produced the Buick Enclave, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook. Its design was influenced by the concept of the ’05 Chevy Sequel with a grille similar to that of the ’08 Chevrolet Malibu.

Updates to the Traverse

Since the first Traverse models were introduced in 2009, there have been alterations made to this crossover Chevy vehicle. With the 2010 edition, the “TRAVERSE” badges on the front door were removed.

The 2013 model also got a facelift. The 2013 Chevy Traverse got a new grille, a redesigned rear liftgate, and rear-tail lights that were inspired by the 2010 Camaro. To improve the shift quality and timing, the transmission was reworked. In addition, the new Traverse offers a color touch-screen, both cloth and leather interior seating, and the choice of front wheel drive and all wheel drive. For those who are big on sound systems, a Bose audio system is now standard on the 2LT and 1LTZ models.
