Electric Car Battery Life Expectancy

An electric car battery is a series of smaller batteries.

Are you ready to kick high gas prices in Elgin to the curb? Are you tired of spending a lot of money on fuel around Schaumburg and Streamwood? Consider one of the electric vehicles on our lot as your next new vehicle

There’s the Equinox EV and Blazer EV, two of our most popular SUVs. Or, choose the Silverado EV if you want outstanding towing capabilities.

In addition to the range, you want to make sure you can get the most out of each electric car charge. We’ll talk about electric car charging stations with our guide from Biggers Chevrolet near Bartlett. You’ll also find out where you can charge your electric car.

What Is the Average Electric Car Battery Life Expectancy?

No car battery lasts forever due to the nature of these batteries. Every time you plug in for an electric car charge, you’ll gradually wear down the battery. But don’t worry! The average electric car battery life expectancy is currently 10 to 20 years! Every EV is required to have an 8-year, 100,000-mile warranty. But some EV batteries can last well past that. We’ll help you get the most out of your EV by teaching you how to foster the best methods for an electric car charge.

Why Does Electric Car Battery Life Expectancy Matter?

You want to get the most out of your EV. While the savings on refueling are great, electric car batteries are very expensive. They can cost between $5,000 and $15,000 for new ones. However, the good news is that EV batteries have come down in price over the years. And that trend will continue as research progresses.

Maximizing an Electric Car’s Battery Life

How you drive and use the right electric car charging stations can affect the longevity of your EV battery. Keep these tips in mind:

  1. Don’t charge your vehicle every night. Recharging is what gradually wears down your battery.
  2. Try to keep your vehicle at somewhere between 20%–80% battery level. Draining it all the way can cause faster degradation and filling it up all the way can also do that.
  3. Stay out of the heat whenever possible. While cold can drain a battery’s current charge because you run the heat more often, extreme heat can reduce a battery’s total capacity. The ideal ambient temperature range for a battery is between 65 to 85 degrees Fahrenheit.
  4. Charge up more slowly whenever possible. Although DC Fast Charging Stations can be convenient, overusing them can degrade your battery over time. Go with Level 2 electric car charging stations. Or, use your own garage for the best place where you can charge your electric car.
  5. Exhausting large amounts of power over a short period can degrade your battery, so accelerate gradually.

Where Can You Charge Your Electric Car?

Charge your electric car in two main places:

  • At home, use a standard outlet or a professionally installed Level 2 charging box.
  • In public, either at a Level 2 or Level 3 (DC Fast Charging) station. Use your vehicle’s navigation system or a mapping app on your phone to locate the nearest charging station.
