Concept Performance Design Technology & Safety Test Drive
A Nod to the Past; High Beams on the Future
The 2017 Corvette Grand Sport harnesses the spirit of the original Grand Sport model, which made its debut during the 1963 model year.
Only five prototype models were made of the 1963 Corvette Grand Sport, all of which are still in existence today. The original vehicle, which had a significant influence on the future of Chevy racing, was composed of lightweight materials and was powered by 6.2L 377 CI small block V8 engine. The 2017 descendant of this influential racecar similarly features a 6.2L (376 CI) V8 direct-injected engine.
Following the 1963 original, the next Grand Sport to rev into existence was the 1996 edition, of which only 1,000 models were made.
A 2010 Grand Sport model was the next to join the lineup, featuring a wider Z06 chassis and a 6.2L LS3 V8 engine that enabled the car to attain 0 to 60 mph acceleration in just 3.95 seconds.
The 2017 Corvette Grand Sport features track-proven technologies and delivers exceptional power and precision to rival any other performance vehicle in existence.
The 6.2L LT1 V8 engine that powers the Grand Sport produces an impressive 460 hp and 465 lb-ft of torque and achieves a breathtaking 0 to 60 acceleration time of just 3.6 seconds. This powerhouse engine features direct injection, continuously variable valve timing, and Active Fuel Management.
A dry-sump oil system comes standard, pumping oil into the car’s engine from a 9.8 quart tank inside the engine bay. This ensures that oil flow to key areas is not interrupted by high G-force cornering—perfect for roads near the Fox River. The car’s oil system is additionally bolstered by eight oil-spraying jets within the engine block that reduce the temperature of the pistons to enable long-term durability and extreme output.
The compact design of the engine lowers the Grand Sport’s hoodline to facilitate optimum weight balance.
This mighty engine can be mated with either a standard 7-speed manual transmission with Active Rev Matching or an available 8-speed paddle shift automatic transmission that includes a manual mode for racing.
The Grand Sport additionally features standard large BREMBO 14.6-inch/14.4-inch two-piece steel rotors or available massive 15.5-inch/15.3-inch BREMBO carbon ceramic rotors.
Devastatingly Gorgeous Design
The magnificent, aerodynamic physique of the Grand Sport, which is available in both coupe and convertible body styles, stays true to the Corvette legacy that gave birth to it. It makes for the perfect arrival car to places like Woodfield Mall.
The car’s widened body features advanced aerodynamic and cooling elements. The exterior can be tailored to personal tastes thanks to various color choices, distinctive striping options, and available fender hash marks.
The Grand Sport also features broader fenders to house wider wheels and tires, giving the car a bold, aggressive stance. An exclusive mesh grille and Grand Sport badging on the front fender inserts further facilitate enhanced airflow and help distinguish the Grand Sport.
No part of the Grand Sport’s exterior design is without purpose. In addition to its aerodynamic enhancements, the car also features lightweight architecture and a rear Z06-esque rear spoiler to lessen lift. Available carbon fiber rocker panels and an available carbon fiber rear spoiler cut down the car’s weight even more and add to its overall aerodynamic qualities. And it doesn’t end there—the Grand Sport’s aerodynamics are taken even further thanks to an available Carbon Fiber Ground Effects Package.
