Performance Charging Technology Test Drive
The Bolt EV is designed to take you far—in more ways than one!
Delivering an incredible driving range, the Bolt EV can travel up to an EPA-estimated 238 miles on one full charge. When you consider that the average American commuter travels about 40 miles per day, that means it’s possible to drive the Bolt EV for a couple of days without charging it—somewhat like driving a gas-powered vehicle on half a tank minus the emissions. That means saving on energy during your commute on I-90.
Drivers can also maximize the Bolt EV’s range through a regenerative process called the “regen effect.” The regen effect automatically assists the car’s battery in restoring more electricity while it’s in motion.
One way to optimize the Bolt EV’s range is pulling on the “Regen on Demand” paddle inside the car. Regen on Demand is a technique that enables drivers to slow down without using the brake pedal while also transferring energy to the car’s battery, which is then converted to electricity.
Another technique, One Pedal Driving, lets drivers speed up as well as slow down using the accelerator. To go faster, the driver presses a foot down on the accelerator like they would in any other car; but to slow down, drivers can simply lift that foot off the pedal and instead of losing energy while they decelerate, energy is directed to the battery.
Even the Bolt EV’s shape contributes to its incredible efficiency, with its flowing physique and lightweight aluminum construction. The result of all its elements combined is an attractive and environmentally friendly means of getting from point A to point B!
Firing Up the Bolt EV
When it’s time to charge the Bolt EV, a variety of options and settings make it convenient to do so.
Drivers can customize the car’s charging schedule around their own timetable or even their location. A Location-Based Charging feature, which comes standard, lets you customize the car’s charging settings while you’re at home and utilize public charging when you’re not. Places like Elgin Public Parking Garage and Poplar Creek Country Club have charging stations you can use.
An available 240-volt charging unit offers the very fastest means of recharging the car’s battery while you’re at home and can deliver as much as 25 miles of range per charging hour. The battery can be totally charged from empty in about 9.5 hours.
Wherever you are—at home or away—the Bolt EV can use a GPS signal in the vehicle to identify your location and activate charging according to your preset programming as well as the location.
When you’re not at home, you can take advantage of public DC Fast Charging stations, which can provide up to 90 miles of range after just a half-hour of charging. So plug in, get some lunch or a beverage, and then you’re on the road again!
In addition to its awesome efficiency and convenience, the Bolt EV provides state-of-the-art technology features to further bolster your in-car experience.
A 10.2-inch diagonal center display and an 8-inch diagonal driver cluster both come standard, keeping the driver informed by delivering key info like the car’s energy usage, battery levels, range estimation, climate controls, and charging settings.
The 10.2-inch screen is tablet-like in its design, with intuitive, multi-function screens that offer both split-screen and expanded viewing options to provide drivers with easy access to music, phone contacts, and more. Day and night modes further offer improved visibility.
An in-vehicle 4G LTE Wi-Fi hotspot is also available for the Bolt EV as are Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
Additionally, the Bolt EV serves up high-tech safety and driver-assist features to help protect its passengers out on the road, including various systems that are radar and camera based. Safety features offered for the Bolt EV include:
- Available Forward Collision Alert
- Available Front Pedestrian Braking
- Available Rear Cross Traffic Alert
- Available Side Blind Zone Alert
- Available OnStar Automatic Crash Response
- Available OnStar Advisors
