Predictions are flying about the 2016 Impala’s powertrain. We expect a 2.5L four-cylinder engine with a solid 196 hp, but look for an optional 3.6L V6 with a boosted 305 hp. While details are nebulous, rumors have also circulated about a possible V6 option with both gasoline and compressed natural gas. This CNG V6 will likely deliver 230 hp with up to 260 hp using its standard gasoline engine. The efficient Impala should generate between 29 and 31 mpg on the highway, depending on configuration. A six-speed automatic transmission will likely be the standard.
