The Chevy Tahoe, formerly known as the Chevrolet Blazer, is Chevy’s flagship full-size SUV. The Tahoe was based on Chevy’s Suburban SUV and shared its GMT400 platform, but was shorter in length. Debuting in 1992 as a two door model, the Blazer got its four doors in 1994. Chevrolet then renamed the vehicle the Tahoe in 1995.

The First Generation (1992-1999)

The first generation Blazer/Tahoe came standard with a 5.7L V8 engine, with a 6.5L Detroit Diesel V8 added as an option in 1994. Buyers had a choice of rear wheel and four wheel drive. In 1996, the 5.7L engine was replaced by a 5.7L Vortec 5700 V8. Buyers had a choice of a manual and an automatic transmission.

The Second Generation (2000-2006)

The Tahoe was completely redesigned for the 2000 model year. It utilized the new GMT800 platform, which was also used for full sized pickup trucks. Two new engine options replaced the previous versions: a 4.8L and a 5.3L V8, both of which were smaller and more powerful. The manual transmission option was dropped.

The new Tahoe featured a more aerodynamic appearance and an upgraded interior. In 2003, Chevy added stability control, satellite radio, a Bose stereo, and a DVD system.

The Third Generation (2007-Present)

The Tahoe was redesigned again for 2007, using the new GMT900 platform. It gained a new front fascia, hood, and real wood interior trim. A 6.2L engine option was added in 2009 and a six speed automatic transmission replaced the previous four speed version on most models.

The current 2013 Tahoe is available now at Biggers Chevrolet in three trim options, the LS, LT, and LTZ. Standard features include a navigation system, satellite radio, and tri-zone climate control. The standard model seats eight, but buyers have a choice of two additional seating configurations. All Tahoe models are powered by a 5.3L V8 available in both 2WD and 4WD.  When properly equipped the Tahoe can tow up to 8,500 pounds.
