The Chevy Camaro: Great Performance and Value for Over 40 Years

The Chevrolet Camaro, classified as a pony car and sometimes a muscle car, was released in 1966. The Camaro shared a platform and many of its components with the Pontiac Firebird. It was debuted on June 28, 1966 at a live press conference in Detroit.

First Generation

The first generation Camaro was produced from 1967 until 1969 and was built atop the GM F-body platform and was available in a two-door coupe and a convertible body style. Powertrain options included a 4.1L inline six cylinder, and 4.9L, 5.4L, 5.7L, and 6.5L V8s.

Second Generation

The 1970 model year brought the second generation Camaro, which was produced through 1981. It was restyled and was slightly larger and wider than the previous version. It continued to features the same uni-body structure, front sub-frame, and A-arm front suspension. Buyers originally had a choice of the RS, SS, and Z28 trim packages, but were eventually phased out.

Third Generation

The Camaro’s third generation began in 1982 and ran through 1992. This model was the first of feature modern fuel injection along with the new Turbo Hydramatic four speed automatic transmissions.

Fourth Generation

The fourth generation debuted in 1993 and featured an updated F-body platform. Buyers had a choice of V6 and V8 engines with the standard engine being a 3.4L V6. Anti-lock brakes became standard equipment. Chevrolet ceased production on the Camaro in 2002 after producing the 35th anniversary edition.

Fifth Generation

The Camaro made its comeback in 2009. Available in both a coupe and a convertible version, the current generation is also offered a selection of trim options and powertrains.

The current 2013 Chevy Camaro is available now at Biggers Chevrolet. It is available in LS, LT, SS, and ZL1 trim options and in a choice of a 3.6L V6 engine and a 6.2L V8. Standard features include air conditioning, cruise control, Onstar, and Bluetooth.
