Engine Choices

Choose from two different engines for the Impala. Whether you crave a well-balanced ride or a powerhouse performance, the Impala offers something for every driver.

The base engine utilizes Chevy’s signature ECOTEC system. Models come standard with a 2.5L ECOTEC engine that produces 197 hp and 191 lb-ft of torque. It utilizes direct-injection technology and is paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission.

For those who crave a little more edge, there is an optional 3.6L V6 engine with 305 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque. Like the standard ECOTEC engine, this model also shares the same 6-speed automatic transmission and direct-injection technology.

Fuel Economy

The Impala performance may be centered on vigorous performance, but keep in mind that these models are incredibly fuel efficient as well. The 2.5L engine receives an EPA-estimated 22 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. The 3.6L V6 engine has an EPA-estimated 18 mpg in the city and 28 mpg on the highway. Both engines have the capacity for an 18.5 gallon fuel tank, which means you can travel miles and miles without worrying about fueling up.

Stop and Start Technology

Stop and Start technology maximizes fuel efficiency on the 2.5L engine. This innovative system allows the Impala to work at its peak capacity. Stop and Start technology switches into gear at stop lights. It halts the engine when braking, so you can save as much fuel as possible. As soon as you let your foot off the brakes, the engine is ready to go and is “awake” again.  Additionally, Variable Valve Timing helps control the emissions without compromising on performance.

Suspension and Handling

The Impala is easy to handle from a MacPherson front strut suspension system that allows for stiff and stable driving. In the back of the cabin, a four-link system and a stabilizer bar maximize comfort when cornering. Front-wheel drive is standard on both models, along with an automatic transmission.

If you want to have a little extra fun with your Impala, these models come with a four-wheel anti-lock braking system to reduce heat in the brakes and control handling with precision.
