Need a refresher? It was clad in iridescent bright green paint and fitted with dramatic, oversized wheels. And, just like the three-inch toy model, the new Chevy Camaro Hot Wheels concept features those same distinguishing components.
Speaking on the decision to create the novel model, Phil Zak, Design Director, GM says, "The [Chevrolet] Camaro has been a mainstay in the Hot Wheels lineup since 1968. Several generations of car enthusiasts grew up playing with Hot Wheels Camaros, which dreaming of driving the real thing, so this was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to make that dream a reality."1
Of course, Chevy had the help from long-time partner in crime: Mattel. Together the American automaker and the toymaker designed different concepts and then integrated elements from each into one final version both teams agreed on. Speaking on the car's evolution from idea to real-life concept, Felix Holst, VP, Design, Mattel Wheels Division, says, "...The Spectraflame paint and redline tires of those first Hot Wheels cars have been the dreams of guys for generations, and it was thrilling to inject these elements into the Camaro for real."2
Biggers Chevrolet has to say, even the pictures of the concept convey the fun Chevy and Mattel had designing the hot ride. Unfortunately for those wondering when they can get their hands on set of hot wheels, Chevy denied the SEMA audience any insight into weather the new concept will make its way to the production line. However, if response is robust enough, we'd be willing to wager they do.
